Town regains dedicated newspaper after 10 years with new launch

A town has regained its own dedicated newspaper for the first time in a decade thanks to a new launch.

Archant has launched Felixstowe Extra to serve the Suffolk port town with the free, 24-page title published for the first time on Friday.

Felixstowe was previously served by titles including an edition of Archant’s Advertiser series, which ran between 1987 and 2009.

The Advertiser was replaced by the Star Advertiser, which ran for a further three years until its closure in 2012.

Felixstowe Extra

The first edition of Felixstowe Extra features bylines from journalists working for other Archant titles, including Suffolk communities editor Richard Cornwell.

Stories by Dominic Bareham, Will Durrant, Abygail Fossett, local democracy reporter Jason Noble also appear, as well as East Anglian Daily Times reporter Matt Powell and chief football writer Stuart Watson.

Will, who also works for Archant titles including the Saffron Walden Reporter and Dunmow Broadcast, posted about the launch on Twitter on Saturday.

He wrote: “It’s not every day that you get a byline in a brand new print newspaper. Congratulations to the Suffolk team at Archant on the Felixstowe Extra launch this week.”

As well as Archant’s titles, Felixstowe is also served by hyperlocal website network Nub News.

HTFP has approached Archant for more information about the launch.
