Regional title aims to ‘stand out’ from other Jubilee specials

A regional title has made a bid to “stand out” from other publications with its front cover celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Devon Life has created a mosaic cover featuring 40 people from its patch who it had asked what the Queen means to them.

Every contributor’s headshot is featured in the background of an image of Her Majesty on the cover of the special June issue.

The story was compiled by Chrissy Harris, while the cover was created by Michael Langton, Archant’s editorial design team leader.

Devon Life editor Andy Cooper told HTFP: “I wanted to do something a little different which hopefully would stand out set against other magazine Jubilee covers when HM was likely to figure prominently.

“We decided to do a feature inside in which we spoke to 40 Devon folk about what the Jubilee meant to them. We obtained a headshot of every one of them and then Michael Langton, Archant’s editorial design team leader, created this mosaic cover which features every contributor’s headshot in the background of this fabulous image of the Queen.

“Michael’s talent and dedication to the task really made my initial concept come to life in a really impactful way and the cover is already getting a lot of love on social media even before the magazine goes on sale on May 20th.

“A word of thanks to for freelance writer Chrissy Harris, who did the ‘hard yards’ by contacting all the contributors and compiling their words and headshot, a not inconsiderable task completed over three months from when we first planned the idea.”
