Press industry awards rebranded to focus solely on print

Gary CullumA national awards scheme that rewards excellence in news production and content has relaunched to focus solely on print.

Organisers of the newsawards have announced it is rebranding to revert to its previous name of the Newspaper Awards, with a fresh focus on “production and innovation” in newspapers.

The scheme was orginally rebranded in 2015 and had in recent years also offered a number of awards recognising work in the digital field.

But, launching this year’s scheme, director Gary Cullum has now announced a change of direction.

Gary, pictured, said: “Newspaper print is in decline, that is an undeniable fact. However, the printed newspaper remains integral to the success and profitability of the news media industry.

“Printed newspapers will evolve for many years to come and will continue to be published alongside their digital counterparts.

“The new format Newspaper Awards will focus on production and innovation in national, international, regional, weekly and hyperlocal newspapers.

“It will recognise the skill and expertise of all the employees involved in producing the printed publication.”

He added: “The decision to focus purely on print may seem counter-intuitive but our research indicates that the industry is keen to highlight the innovation and excellence in the printed newspaper.

“We’re looking forward to showcasing world-class newspapers printed nationally, regionally and internationally at what promises to be a major industry networking event.”

The entry form for Newspaper Awards 2023 will be available in September with a December closing date.

The Awards will take place on Tuesday 28 March 2023 at the London Hilton Bankside.

Sponsors include Fujifilm, UPM, Papermule, Reach Printing Services, Resolute Forest Products, Newsprinters and Aktrion Atalian Servest.
