Journalists invited to talk local government with Jackie Weaver

Jackie WeaverJournalists are being invited to discuss local government and other matters with internet star Jackie Weaver.

The Manchester and Salford branch of the National Union of Journalists is hosting a free evening webinar with Jackie Weaver, chief officer of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils.

Ms Weaver, pictured, became an internet sensation last year after a video of a chaotic planning and environment meeting at Handforth Parish Council, in Cheshire, was widely shared online.

During the webinar, she will discuss the importance of local government, how zoom has changed meetings, the shock of achieving sudden celebrity status and her excellent relationship with the media.

Ms Weaver will also be taking questions during the hour-long event, hosted by Chris Frost, emeritus professor of journalism at Liverpool John Moores University and chair of the NUJ’s Ethics Council.

She said: “When all this publicity has finished and the world forgets me, I’m still going to be remembered by the people around me in Cheshire as the woman to go to if they need help with local council issues.

“That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning… being the person who solves problems for a local council.

“What I like most of all about the job is the variety in that you never know what is going to happen today or tomorrow. It is so different all the time.”

The webinar will take place form 7pm on Tuesday 25 January and participants can join via this link.
