Journalist stung in jellyfish ‘attack’ issues warning to beachgoers

Kate Lally 2022A journalist who was subjected to a jellyfish “attack” has issued a warning about the creatures to fellow beachgoers.

Liverpool Echo senior reporter Kate Lally has called on people to beware after twice coming into contact with the animals.

Kate, pictured, was injured in what she termed an “attack” after being swarmed by jellyfish in the sea at Formby Beach, between Liverpool and Southport, last summer.

She was stung “badly” on her right arm and upper legs in a matter of minutes.

Now, she has made a fresh plea to others to be on the lookout after discovering a jellyfish on the dunes at the same beach last month.

The mother-of-one told the Echo: “After being stung so badly last summer I am always careful when I go now, but this one was almost at the bottom of the dune when you first enter the beach, nowhere near the sea.

“I didn’t think I’d need to be on the lookout for them so far from the water and I very nearly stood on it.

“I was in agony last time and I dread to think what would happen if a little one stood on a jellyfish.”
