Fraudster used publisher’s name to swindle more than £13,000

A fraudster who faked invoices from a regional publisher to swindle more than £13,000 is set to be jailed.

Gavin Daglish pleaded guilty to false accounting by sending out invoices for £13,724 which appeared to be from Archant.

The scam contributed towards more than £500,000 Dalglish fraudulently gained between 2012 and 2017, according to the Sidmouth Herald.

The 38-year-old has now admitted seven counts of fraud, false accounting, or money laundering after appearing at Exeter Crown Court, pictured below.

As well as the Archant-related fraud, committed in 2016, he admitted offences including obtaining £528,433.15 from chartered surveyor Robert Gascoigne-Pees between 2012 and 2016 by claiming falsely that he was providing advertising services.

Dalglish, of Teignmouth, also admitted laundering the proceeds.

The internet marketing consultant was investigated by police after complaints from dissatisfied customers who paid him to promote their companies by ensuring they appeared at the top of searches on Google.

Dalglish was due to appear for sentence but failed to attend in person and appeared by video link for the hearing.

Recorder Mr Malcolm Galloway adjourned sentencing until later this month and warned him he would he sentenced in his absence if he failed to turn up again.

William Parkhill, defending, told the court Daglish knows he is likely to receive an immediate jail sentence and is “struggling with the reality of the situation”.
