Engagement journalist promoted to deputy editor at daily

Ginny SandersonAn engagement journalist has been promoted to deputy editor of a regional daily after working for its sister title.

Ginny Sanderson has been appointed second in command at the Edinburgh Evening News after serving at its fellow National World daily The Scotsman.

Ginny’s move comes after previous EEN editor Euan McGrory was promoted to editor-in-chief of ‘City World Newspapers’, which will see him take overall responsibility for the print operations of the Yorkshire Evening Post and Sheffield daily The Star as well as the News.

EEN news editor Rhoda Morrison was concurrently promoted to editor, but with a different reporting line and a focus on digital growth.

Posting on Twitter on Wednesday, Ginny wrote: “I can’t quite believe it but I am going to be deputy editor of the Edinburgh Evening News, starting tomorrow.

“So sad to leave such a legendary team, but excited for a new challenge.”

Ginny, pictured, went on to thank National World group subscription and registration editor Sam Shedden, engagement executive Graham Falk and Scotsman live editor Joshua King.

She added: “Thank you to Sam Shedden for hiring me in the first place, for Joshua King for being an amazing boss, and to Graham Falk for making every Google Hangout hilarious.”

She told HTFP: “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed deputy editor of an excellent local paper in one of the best cities in the world. I can’t wait to get stuck in and aim to champion Edinburgh and give a voice to its communities.

“It’s a frightening time right now, so we’ll be launching a cost of living campaign to highlight the difficulties people are facing in Edinburgh and the Lothians – and call for those in power to take meaningful action.”
