Editor shares pride as Boris Johnson visits hyperlocal newsroom

An editor has shared his pride after Boris Johnson paid a visit to his hyperlocal news title’s office.

Daniel Ionescu has opened up on his “delight” after welcoming the embattled Prime Minister to the Lincoln headquarters of The Lincolnite yesterday.

During the visit, the PM was quizzed on topics including tensions in Ukraine, a future devolution deal for Lincolnshire, highways funding and levelling up.

The Lincolnite put questions to the Prime Minister from council leaders, as well as readers, during the visit.

Daniel said: “It was a delight to welcome the Prime Minister and showcase a prime example of a leading independent news operation.

“We also highlighted our role as the voice of the community, by gathering and putting to Boris Johnson questions from our local leaders and readers.”

The visit to The Lincolnite comes after Bolton News editor Richard Duggan urged politicians to “follow Boris Johnson’s lead” in visiting regional newsrooms after he met the PM at his newspaper’s office.

However, Iliffe Media editorial director Ian Carter has also accused Mr Johnson of treating the regional press “like mugs” in recent days after he snubbed local journalists during a visit to Kent.
