Editor leaves daily to take charge at neighbouring sister title

Nicola Adam newA regional daily’s editor is leaving her role to take over at its neighbouring sister title.

Nicola Adam, who edits Blackpool daily The Gazette, will move in March to take over at JPIMedia stablemate the Lancashire Post, where she previously served as deputy editor.

Her appointment comes as Gillian Parkinson, who currently runs the Preston-based Post, prepares to retire at the end of March after 33 years of service to JPIMedia and its forerunner Johnston Press.

Nicola, pictured, has been in charge at The Gazette since March last year, when she became the Blackpool daily’s first dedicated editor in six years.

She said: “I am delighted to be taking over as editor of the Lancashire Post.

“I feel like I have come full circle after starting out my career in the LEP newsroom all those years ago, albeit as a trainee for a weekly free title at the time.

“I remember thinking all the experienced daily reporters were terrifying and definitely didn’t dare speak to the editor.

“Hopefully I’ll be approachable as editor in very different times and that we can take on the challenges of new ways of working together and make some waves in journalism. There’s a lot of work to be done.

“I’ll miss Blackpool hugely, although I’m not going far and will still work closely with the team going forward.

“I want to say a huge thank you to staff who have gone above and beyond in the past few months, and of course to Gillian Parkinson, a true leader and the hardest worker I know.”

Gillian’s retirement was announced last month after JPIMedia unveiled a plan which will see its North-West and North-East business units merge into a single division covering the North of England.

A replacement for Nicola in Blackpool will now be sought.
