A regional daily published a front page tribute to a journalist who covered football matches on its patch for decades.
Colin Slater, who reported on Notts County first as a print journalist and then as a broadcaster, died on Monday.
Colin, who was 87, began his career on local newspapers before becoming Notts County reporter on the Nottingham Evening News, prior to its merger with the Nottingham Post.
He later moved to become Notts County correspondent for BBC Radio Nottingham in 1968. The Post splashed on Colin’s death on Tuesday.
Post Notts County writer Leigh Curtis said: “It’s very, very sad news, he was Mr Notts County – an icon and synonymous with the club.
“He was amazing with me at Notts and introduced himself to me, and introduced me to other people.
“I travelled with him to games when I first arrived, and he was so humble, a truly exceptional gentleman, and there are no other words better to describe him.
“He was an absolute treasure.”
