Daily throws weight behind city’s bid to host Eurovision

A regional daily has thrown its weight behind its patch’s bid to host the next Eurovision song contest.

The Nottingham Post is campaigning for Nottingham to hold next year’s event after it was confirmed it will be staged in the United Kingdom.

The decision was made after organisers decided it could not be held in war-torn Ukraine, which won this year’s contest, with Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool also expressing an interest in hosting the event so far.

The campaign’s launch provided a splash for the Post on Thursday, pictured below.

Editor Natalie Fahy told HTFP: “Nottingham is the obvious choice for Eurovision.

“The Motorpoint Arena is more than capable of hosting such a large scale event and it would be welcomed with open arms by our diverse population.

“We’ve also had the backing of the city’s Ukrainian society on this, most importantly.

“There is another point here too, which is that the BBC knows it needs to show some more love to the regions.

“The East Midlands is constantly overlooked for big events, so we say this is our moment.”
