Daily takes on Wordle with new app’s puzzle feature

A city daily is aiming to emulate the success of Wordle after launching a puzzles section on its new app.

The Norwich Evening News has revealed the move, which will allow readers to complete word searches, crosswords, codewords and sudokus on their pohnes.

HTFP reported earlier this month that the Evening News had launched the new paid-for app, Evening News+, which is available for £3.99 a month or £39.99 annually.

The addition of the puzzles feature was announced in a piece entitled ‘Move over Wordle, there’s a new brain teaser in town’.

Norwich City Council member Claire Stephenson, who is among those who have tried out the feature, told the Evening News: “I think Wordle becoming popular has got people really thinking about puzzles again.

“I did actually buy a puzzle book recently after realising it was more fun than I thought it was.

“But Wordle can move over now I know about the features in the Evening News+ app, definitely.

“I like crosswords and general knowledge puzzles. I like keeping my mind busy. The puzzle section in the Evening News+ app will stop me doom-scrolling through my phone.”

Evening News editor Richard Porritt has previously urged readers to “pay for the cost” of its journalists by downloading the app.
