Daily seeks bilingual journalists for ‘secret project’

Callum BairdA daily newspaper is seeking bilingual journalists for what it described as a “secret project”.

Newsquest-owned daily The National has launched the call for journalists and writers who know Scottish Gaelic to come forward.

The 2011 census recorded 57,000 speakers as being fluent in Scottish Gaelic, with 87,000 people in Scotland reporting having some ability with the language.

In its plea, the pro-Scottish independence title, which is based in Glasgow, said it did not want to “give too many details away yet”.

Editor Callum Baird, pictured, said: “While this is still a bit of a secret project just now, The National is a paper that serves Scotland – its culture, its languages and more.

“Gaelic is part of the fabric of this country and so we’ve been cooking something up. Thanks in advance to everyone who gets in touch.”
