Daily reveals fresh plans for coronavirus memorial

A daily newspaper has revealed the first image of a coronavirus memorial it is campaigning to build.

HTFP has previously reported on Glasgow-based daily The Herald’s bid to build the memorial for all those who died from the illness in Scotland at the city’s Pollok Country Park.

The design of the monument has now been brought forward to Glasgow City Council and included four separate memorial sites within the park, as well as a plan to link 50 oak tree supports to offer the idea of a memorial walk.

The Herald has a target of £233,500 for the project, of which it has now raised more than £91,000.

Editor Donald Martin said: “This is a fitting memorial which will unite people across Scotland as we remember those lost to Covid and those affected by the pandemic.

“We were humbled by the response to our initial fundraising launch and we hope people will get behind us to help us create this important national memorial.

“Together we can create a place which will offer a place of comfort and hope.”
