Daily launches new series examining patch’s political future

A daily newspaper has launched a new monthly series examining its patch’s political future.

Glasgow-based daily The Herald has launched the ‘Scotland’s Future’ series, which will look at the prospects for Scottish independence and the prospect of the country rejoining the European Union if that were to happen.

Contributors include Philip Rycroft, the former permanent secretary at the Department for Exiting the EU and the leading Cabinet expert on devolution, and Kirsty Hughes, the founder and former director of the Scottish Centre on European Relations.

The 10-part series will appear monthly in the Newsquest-owned daily and was launched on The Herald’s front page yesterday, pictured below.

Launching the series, The Herald’s Scottish political editor Tom Gordon wrote: “Appearing monthly throughout the year, it will look at key issues of the constitutional debate, as well as the challenges and opportunities around devolved public services.

“The aim is not to push a political angle, but to stimulate debate about the country’s options by providing a platform for expert knowledge and lively opinion.”

He added: “Scotland’s Future will help fill the vacuum with articles from academics and other authorities on issues and debates as they are today, not as they were.”
