Aptly-named columnist ends two-decade association with dailies

Sue WalkerA walker by both name and nature has ended her regional daily column after almost 20 years.

Sue Walker has announced the retirement of her walking column, which she has written for the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News for the best part of two decades.

Sue, pictured, began mapping a weekly walk for readers of the two sister dailies on behalf of local Ramblers groups with her husband Keith, although he sadly died a few months after the feature was launched.

Richard Porritt, who edits the two dailies, has paid tribute to Sue.

He said: “Our readers have loved following Sue’s walks.

“She has done a remarkable job, researching many hundreds of walks right across the county and helping us all enjoy getting out into the countryside.

“I’d like to wish her a very happy retirement – filled with plenty of her favourite walks.”

Discussing her column, 76-year-old Sue told the EDP: “I have enjoyed doing it.

“When I find a good walk I like to be able to tell people about it.

“Whatever you feel when you go out, you always feel so much better when you come home.

“If you have a problem or a worry, I find walking sorts it out and things seem better.”
