Weekly wins fight to have killer paedophile placed on Sex Offenders Register

A freed child rapist and murderer has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register thanks to a weekly newspaper’s campaign.

The Northamptonshire Telegraph has been victorious in its bid with Claire and Lauren Homes, the sister of Collette Gallacher, to impose the restriction on her killer Adam Stein.

HTFP reported in February how the Telegraph had launched the campaign to demand paedophile Stein – who raped and killed six-year-old Collette in Corby in 1986 – be placed on the Register once he leaves jail.

The 61-year-old was not placed on the Register because his crimes were committed before 1997, but Justice Secretary Robert Buckland has now confirmed an interim sexual harm prevention order has been imposed on Stein following his release from prison in March.

Telegraph reporter Kate Cronin told HTFP: “When you start a campaign like this, you can never really know what’s going to happen.

“I knew it would be a lot of hard work but I promised Collette’s sisters that we would stick with them and see this through to the end.

“I’m so proud that Claire and Lauren have trusted the Northants Telegraph to run this campaign alongside them. They are incredible women and have had to relive their trauma every day since Stein was released.

“They have had overwhelming support from the whole town, just as their family did all those years ago when Collette was killed.

“Although Stein is now on the register, Collette’s sisters are continuing their campaign to change the law to ensure no other family has to go through this and we’ll be with them every step of the way.”
