Newspaper puts its news online for first time in more than 10 years

Jane RogersA local newspaper has begun publishing its content online for the first time in more than a decade.

The Goole Times has made the move alongside its sister weekly the Selby Times after their publisher Chronicle Publications launched new sites and apps for the titles.

News from the Times was previously available via an app that could be purchased from the App Store, but Chronicle has now decided to offer its news across all digital platforms again for the first time in more than 10 years.

The new sites have been developed with publishing platform Better Than Paper, whose other clients include DC Thomson.

They will give readers the option of reading news offline and tailoring them to their specific interests.

Goole Times editor Jane Rogers, pictured, said: “These new websites and apps will allow us as a company to expand and modernise the way our readers receive their local news.

“We have looked at our publishing platforms repeatedly over recent years but never found the solution we were looking for.

“With Better Than Paper we liked the design options, ease of use, the ability to integrate advertising as well as provide our readers with real-time news updates, including the ability to read news offline and give them a more customised reading experience with the software’s personalisation options.”
