Weekly launches push to get more laptops to disadvantaged kids

A weekly newspaper has become the latest regional press title to push for disadvantaged children to receive lockdown laptops.

The Hereford Times has launched its ‘Laptops 2 Kids’ campaign, which aims to provide computers for children stuck at home due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Similar campaigns have been launched in recent months by Sheffield daily The Star and Newcastle daily The Chronicle.

The campaign’s launch provided a splash for the Times last Thursday, pictured below.

Editor John Wilson told HTFP: “The coronavirus pandemic has again demonstrated in so many ways the pivotal role trusted news providers like the Hereford Times play in our communities.

“It is important, I think, that we not only report what is happening, but that we use our privileged position to actively help where and when we can.

“With this campaign we are working with local organisers to ensure that families do not go without the technical means to help them cope with the considerable challenges of home schooling.”
