Weekly launches campaign highlighting importance of takeaways

A weekly newspaper is highlighting the importance of takeaways on its patch in a bid to boost its local economy.

Wokingham.Today has launched a lockdown campaign called Take Out To Help Out which encourages readers to order takeaways from local businesses.

Each week the paper is running an editorial featuring local businesses which benefit from the support of its readers.

The campaign’s launch provided a recent front page story for Wokingham.Today, pictured below.

Discussing how the campaign has gone since then, editor Phil Creighton told HTFP: “We know that everyone is struggling as this lockdown goes on, so we wanted to do our bit to encourage readers to support the local economy.

“A takeaway is a great treat, whatever day of the week it is delivered. At this time, it is also keeping our great pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways in business.

“The response to the campaign has been terrific, with businesses really appreciative of our efforts. We’re grateful to the support from our MPs and other local leaders.

“We want our venues to reopen on the other side of the pandemic, and we’re looking forward to visiting them again when it’s safe to do so.”
