Veteran feature writer looks back on half a century in journalism

A veteran feature writer and columnist has looked back on half a century in journalism in a new book.

Peter Rhodes has examined his career with Wolverhampton daily the Express & Star in Bloody Adjectives.

The book features tales of celebrity interviews, political revolutions and wars.

It also recalls “good old-fashioned scoops”, including one gained from a chance encounter with the Kremlin’s chief spokesman Gennadi Gerasimov at the 1989 Bush-Gorbachev summit in Malta.

Bloody Adjectives

Peter, pictured on the book’s cover, has looked back on his career with fondness.

He told HTFP: “My generation of journalists were lucky.

“We saw a golden age of newspaper reporting when the big regional dailies regarded Fleet Street as the competition and sent reporters around the world to wherever the big stories were happening.”
