A budding journalist has been inspired to apply for a job with a regional daily aged just 12.
Tyler Aston applied to join regional publisher DC Thomson’s new live news team, which is currently recruiting journalists in Aberdeen and Dundee.
Tyler, pictured, is also a podcaster and historian and has discussed his love of local journalism in an interview with the Dundee Evening Telegraph.
He cited Dundee’s “long history with journalism” as among the reasons for his decision to apply.
Tyler’s application comes after DC Thomson launched a recruitment drive which aims to create up to 20 new journalism jobs.
Evening Telegraph editor Dave Lord told HTFP: “We are currently undertaking an exciting and ambitious project to reinvent our newsrooms through the introduction of mini publishing teams focussing on specific areas, such as live news, health and wellbeing, schools and family, politics and sport.
“As part of this we are investing hugely in talent and have undertaken a major recruitment drive.
“It is great that our ambition is not going unnoticed – and piquing the interest of a young audience is particularly pleasing.
“Tyler’s application was superb and I have no doubt he will have a stellar career in journalism.
“He’s not daft – exciting things are happening at DCT Media right now and we are delighted he is among those engaging with us.”
