Sports editor who spent almost four decades in post dies aged 90

John HullsA sports editor who spent almost four decades in his post has died aged 90.

Tributes have been paid to John Hulls, who ran the sportsdesk at the Croydon Advertiser between 1954 and his retirement in 1991.

John, pictured, began his career on The Scotsman before moving to Croydon in 1950.

He initially joined the Croydon Times before switching to the Advertiser.

John’s daughter Susan told HTFP: “John was well respected among his peers and by the many sports clubs with whom he dealt during his long service at the paper.

“He was made an honorary life member of Bromley Football Club for his services to the club.”

John died in hospital in Ashford, Kent, on 1 November.

He is survived by his wife Joan, their four children and six grandchildren.
