Regional journalists urged to apply for BBC data and investigations masterclass

BBC newsRegional journalists are being invited to apply for a BBC data journalism masterclass.

The BBC shared data unit is holding a week-long course in data and investigative journalism, which will run from 17 to 21 January.

A separate masterclass for those unable to commit to the week-long version will also be run between January and April.

Topics discussed on the course include an introduction to how to use spreadsheets for journalism, where to source data for news stories, how to manage a data investigation and how to use Companies House for financial investigations.

There will also be sessions on Freedom of Information, data cleaning, statistics and mapping data.

The scheme is run as part of the BBC’s Local News Partnership with the regional press.

Journalists applying must work for an approved BBC local news partner and have permission from their line manager.

More information and details on how to apply can be found here, and the deadline for applications is 19 December.
