Readers urged to ‘watch this space’ as ex-daily drops fresh print return hint

A former regional daily has urged readers to “watch this space” for a regular print return after publishing a special edition.

The Oldham Chronicle has dropped a further hint it may be back on newsstands soon after publishing a review of 2020.

The free 40-page edition features a round-up of news from the past year, along with a potted history of the Chronicle.

The title currently runs as an online news operation after the Chronicle folded as a daily in 2017, but new owner Credible Media has repeatedly hinted at a print return.

Oldham 2020

In October, Credible sold radio station Revolution 96.2 to concentrate its efforts on the Chronicle.

The latest hint comes after Newsquest switched the publication frequency of its Oldham Times title from weekly to daily last month.

In a piece announcing the special edition’s launch, the Chronicle said: “The Oldham Chronicle has continued to document the real-life stories of Oldhamers.

“The highs and lows of life in the town, from the memorable, to the quirky, and the entertaining.”

It added: “It’s great to be back in print. And as for a more regular print edition of the ‘Chron’? Watch this space.”

HTFP has approached Credible Media for further comment.
