New recruits unveiled as county-wide news website launches

A regional publisher’s newest county-wide news website has launched today after four journalists were recruited to set it up.

Buckinghamshire Live has gone live this morning with an editor, content editor and three reporters.

The site will cover areas including Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and High Wycombe – areas traditionally served by titles run by rival publishers JPIMedia and Newsquest.

Bucks Live is edited by Lucy Thorne, who is also responsible for Reach’s existing Berkshire Live site.

Lucy is joined by content editor Tom Burnett, who has joined from Stoke-on-Trent daily The Sentinel, and reporters Sophie Drew, Shazad Hussain and Emily Craigie.

Sophie is a native of Buckinghamshire and studied journalism in Liverpool, while Shazad, who hopes to represent and increase the voices of those from the county’s Muslim and South Asian communities, completed his journalism training in the summer.

Emily studied for her NCTJ diploma at News Associates and previously worked in communications for BBC News, where she publicised programmes such as The Andrew Marr Show and Politics Live.

Prior to this, she worked in communications for Unicef UK and as a researcher for an MP in the House of Commons.

Lucy said: “Buckinghamshire Live is a talented team who are passionate about representing the area’s vibrant communities.

“We will be offering readers a different perspective but also deliver fun, engaging, informative and inspiring stories from across the county.

“We will be bringing the biggest news stories to our readers but also the untold stories that make our communities what they are today.”

Reach confirmed in a trading update on Friday that its new website covering Bedfordshire will also be launched this month.

HTFP has approached the company for a comment on the launch of Bucks Live.
