Publisher launches search for journalists to boost energy coverage

Jeremy CliffordA regional publisher is building a new team of business journalists who will have a “heavy focus” on the energy sector.

Archant is launching the team, to be led by a new business and energy editor, and plans to also recruit special apprentice journalists who will work in the same field.

Investment in the renewable energy sector across the East of England, where Archant publishes four dailies and a number of weekly titles, is projected to top £60bn over the next 20 years.

The Norwich-based company says it is also planning to launch new digital products around the energy sector with aim of becoming “the leading voice for a registered and subscriber-based audience”.

The role of the new business and energy editor, which is being advertised on HTFP here, will see them work closely with Archant’s commercial content section to seek sponsorship opportunities and provide wider educational leads through schools and colleges.

Archant is also currently recruiting a specialist business reporter as part of the drive, and this role is being advertised on HTFP here.

Archant’s chief content officer Jeremy Clifford, pictured, told HTFP: “This is a new opportunity for us to create something quite different and to work closely with the energy sector in helping readers and the wider public to understand the rapidly changing energy climate and how the east of England will be at the forefront of helping to solve the country’s energy supply problems.

“Our new team will become experts in this field.

“We have already held a successful energy summit with the leading suppliers and agreed to work together on a number of major initiatives as their investment projects come on stream.

“This will be a new way of working for our journalists and we are looking to recruit a real leader who can shape the way forward.”
