Online news boss quits sister dailies to work at rival title

Alex EvansAn online news boss has left two sister dailies for a rival title after revealing he was relishing the chance to work on an “all-digital operation”.

Alex Evans has joined Yorkshire Live after being taken on as content editor at the Reach plc-owned title.

Alex has spent the past five years at JPIMedia the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post, where he was most recently head of live news.

He revealed his departure in a thread posted on Twitter.

Alex, pictured, wrote: “It’s been a hell of a good five years at the YEP.

“I came in as social media editor and was then given my own team of all-digital reporters with a clear goal: grow our audience online.

“Everyone in the team did a phenomenal job and were always topping all the charts.”

Alex went on to thank Yorkshire Post editor James Mitchinson, JPIMedia online editor Mark Thompson and the publisher’s former digital content director Martin Little, who has himself recently been poached by Reach to become its audience transformation director.

He also praised YEP reporters Abbey Maclure, Dan Sheridan, Joe Cooper, Rebecca Marano and Immy Share.

Alex added: “But the first response I got from every person I told I was leaving was ‘oh, is it that Yorkshire Live job? I knew you’d go for that’.

“I’m really excited by what Yorkshire Live is doing and the chance to work on an all-digital operation.

“It seems an ideal fit and I can’t wait for the challenge.”
