Newsquest editor to take up senior training role with Reach

An editor who is leaving three Newsquest dailies will take up a senior training role at Reach plc.

Reach has confirmed Steve Thompson will become its senior editor for training and development once he leaves his current role at the end of next month.

Steve, pictured, presently oversees the Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph and Oldham Times.

As a result of his departure, Newsquest has decided to split his role in two.

One editor will take over at the News, while another will run the Telegraph and the Times.

Both jobs are being advertised on HTFP and can be found here.

At Reach, Steve will “shape the training and development” of its journalists and lead the company’s postgraduate journalism qualifications.

He will also work with universities, as well as Google, Facebook and Twitter to ensure Reach’s newsrooms “are making the most of external experts”.
