News site creates five-strong team to improve coverage of city

A Wales-wide news website has unveiled a new five-strong team aimed at improving its coverage of Cardiff.

Wales Online has unveiled the new Cardiff team to cover “a city developing and changing at pace”.

The team is led by Thomas Deacon, who has worked for the Reach plc-owned site since 2016.

He is joined by former Regional Press Awards Young Journalist of the Year Aamir Mohammed, senior reporter Ffion Lewis and trainee reporters John Jones and Reem Ahmed.

In a piece introducing the team, editor Steffan Rhys wrote: “It’s diverse, symbolic, world famous and growing rapidly. And most importantly, it has 360,000 people who all have a story to tell.

“And now, for the first time, WalesOnline has launched a Cardiff team to improve our coverage of the Welsh capital and its people.

“This group of journalists is committed to telling the stories of a city developing and changing at pace, covering the concerns of the people who live there and highlighting the issues that impact their lives.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll also launch and introduce you to our brand new Valleys team.”
