New live reporting category up for grabs at sports journalism awards

Jon ColmanA new prize honouring live reporting is set to be presented Sports Journalists’ Association British Sports Journalism Awards.

The SJA has announced the launch of its 2021 awards, with more than 35 categories up for grabs.

The Live Reporting award is one of three new categories introduced this year, alongside Sports Podcast of the Year and YouTube Sports Show.

However, the SJA has also decided to drop the Special Sports Edition category.

Last year’s regional prize was won by the Carlisle News & Star’s Jon Colman, pictured, who has now triumphed in the category seven times.

Announcing the launch of the awards, the SJA said: “The amount of categories a single journalist can enter has been raised from two to three with sports scoop no longer counting towards the category limit for journalists who wish to enter this category as well.

“Additional changes include the adding of sports business to the subject list for specialist correspondents and the need for a live report removed from the football, rugby, cricket, regional and young sports journalist categories.”

The deadline for entries is midnight on 19 January 2022, with an awards ceremony taking place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Monday 7 March 2022.
