Journalists win civic honour for ‘outstanding service’ during pandemic

Regional journalists have won a civic honour for their “outstanding service” to the people of their patch during the coronavirus pandemic.

The High Sheriff of West Sussex Dr Tim Fooks yesterday presented an award to JPIMedia’s West Sussex journalists for their work over the past year.

The award was given along with a £500 charity cheque for a charity of the journalists’ choice.

Just Different, a small West Sussex group that helps to change attitudes towards people with disabilities, was chosen.

Dr Fooks said the people of West Sussex “have been kept so well informed” by JPIMedia journalists during the past 12 months.

He added: “Despite the challenges facing local newspapers, you have carried out your essential role exceptionally well and have amply demonstrated why you are considered to be key workers in our communities.”

Those honoured include staff working for the Chichester Observer, Bognor Regis Observer, Midhurst and Petworth Observer, Littlehampton Gazette, Worthing Herald, West Sussex Gazette, Mid Sussex Times, Crawley Observer and West Sussex County Times.
