Hyperlocal network expands with launch of three new sites

Beth ThomasA hyperlocal news network has unveiled the launch of three new websites – moving the total number it has set up past 60.

Nub News has launched sites covering the Mumbles, Kingston upon Thames and Twickenham, bringing the number of titles the company runs across the UK to 61.

The Kingston site will be run by Cameron Eyles, who already edits Teddington Nub News, while Richmond Nub News editor Sam Petherick has taken on responsibility for the Twickenham site.

Cardiff University graduate Beth Thomas, pictured, has been hired as regional editor for the Mumbles site.

Swansea native Beth graduated with an NCTJ-accredited journalism master’s degree last year.

She said: “It’s so exciting to join a young news organisation that is changing the way local news is delivered.

“I can’t wait to throw myself in to our community.”

Nub News chief executive Karl Hancock added: “I’m proud we have reached over 60 towns so soon. That’s testament to the quality of the local news written by our journalists.

“I founded Nub News because I saw a huge vacuum being created by the closure and consolidation of local newspapers. We want to give a voice and an identity back to towns and we want to listen to and support local communities.

“Our towns are scattered around the country from Felixstowe in the East, Crewe in the North-West, Rhyl and Barry in Wales and Honiton and Helston in the South-West.

“As a nation, we are becoming more locally-focussed and the Covid crisis has accelerated this trend. I want Nub News to be at the heart of towns and communities throughout the UK.

“I want Nub News to be their voice and I want to give communities a say on how they feel about what is happening in this country”.
