Fundraising drive to raise thousands for disabled journalists’ training

Journalists are being urged to help raise thousands of pounds for those with disabilities who aspire to a career in journalism.

The National Council for the Training of Journalists is aiming to raise £4,000 for the Thomas Read bursary.

The bursary is awarded each year through the Journalism Diversity Fund to aspiring journalists with disabilities or long-term physical or mental health problems.

The bursary was set up by the family of the young Sky Sports News journalist Thomas Read, who died unexpectedly in 2015 at the age of 25.

The NCTJ team will be embarking on a 15km sponsored walk to raise money for the bursary next Friday.

Journalists are being invited to take part in a fundraising activity of their choice to coincide with the walk, and those wanting to get involved should contact [email protected].
