Executive editor job created as news site grows to nine times its launch size

Luke BEardsworthA county news website is set to have nine times the number of staff it launched with as it prepares to take on an executive editor.

Lancs Live has created the role, analogous to that of a deputy editor, to help lead its team of 27 staff.

The site was launched by Reach plc in February 2019 with a news team of just three – editor Luke Beardsworth and reporters Chantelle Heeds and Olivia Baron.

Lancs Live’s reporters will report to the new executive editor and its team of three content editors, who in turn report to Luke. The successful candidate will also deputise for Luke when needed.

Luke, pictured, told HTFP: “Lancs Live has come a long way from when Chantelle, Olivia and I sat down in February 2019 and started providing news for people across the whole county for the first time.

“From the New Year, there’s going to be 27 of us across different platforms with a goal of making ourselves a more important and useful part of people’s everyday lives.

“The role of executive editor will help us tie together and strategise all the different things we do, from breaking news and sport through to investigations and building our roster of newsletters.

“It will need someone who is comfortable in the fast-moving, cut-and-thrust of a digital team, but who also wants to be able to take a step back and think more broadly – as well as helping to develop and nurture those in the team.”
