Editors to speak as hyperlocal sector’s conference line-up revealed

Editors will be among those to speak at the hyperlocal news sector’s annual conference next week.

The Independent Community News Network and Cardiff University’s Centre for Community Journalism have announced the line-up for the conference, which will be held virtually on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Professor Karin Wahl-Jorgensen, the centre’s director, will deliver a keynote address on recent research carried out at the university on the challenges faced by hyperlocal practitioners during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Editors speaking during the conference include the Caerphilly Observer’s Richard Gurner, Greater Govavnhill’s Rhiannon Davies and the Manchester Mill’s Joshi Herrmann.

A panel discussion on building a sustainable future for the independent community news sector will feature Phil Creighton, of Wokingham Today, Social Spider’s Klaudia Kiss, Darryl Chamberlain, of 853 London and the Charlton Champion, and NN Journal’s Natalie Bloomer.

Other sessions include Social Spider managing director David Floyd discussing the success of the social enterprise model.
