Editor quits daily after four months due to family and off-patch living pressures

Natalie SadlerA regional daily editor has quit the role after just four months in charge – citing family commitments and difficulties of living off-patch for her decision.

Natalie Sadler has announced she will leave the Ipswich Star in January to take a “slightly different career path”.

Natalie, pictured, took on the editorship of the Star in June this year, becoming its first dedicated editor since 2017 in the process.

Her decision to step down was revealed to staff this afternoon and Archant is now advertising for her replacement, with The Star editor’s job being advertised on HTFP here.

Natalie said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to be editor of the Ipswich Star over the past few months, and I take a wealth of knowledge with me from this time.

“However, I have decided to step down and take a slightly different career path for the time being.

“I will greatly miss journalism, and life at Archant, having worked here for a total of 16 years during the course of my career.

“The job has given me some amazing opportunities and allowed me to see the world through the eyes of so many different people.”

Natalie previously served as Archant’s head of news and digital editor in Suffolk before taking up her current role.

Archant editor in chief Jeremy Clifford said in a message to staff: “I am sorry to announce that Natalie Sadler will be leaving us as Editor of the Ipswich Star.

“Natalie has been leading the new Ipswich team for four months and in that time has already done some great work in shaping the future direction of the brand and building a team around her.

“However, she has reluctantly decided she can no longer continue in the role because of her family commitments and the difficulties that come with editing a title while not living on the patch.”

He added: “Natalie will depart in January with our very best wishes and heartfelt thanks for everything she has done and the extraordinary amount of work she has put in to support Brad [Jones, East Anglian Daily Times editor] and the Suffolk team.”
