Editor role created as publisher expands regional politics coverage

Paul GallagherA publisher is creating a new editor role as it launches an expansion of its regional political coverage.

Reach plc has announced the launch of The Northern Agenda, an online newsletter that aims to cover politics “from the other side of the north/south divide”.

The newsletter will feature content drawn from reporters based in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Hull, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Teesside, Lancashire and Cumbria.

The project is being led by Paul Gallagher, executive editor for digital development at Reach’s regional titles, while an agenda editor will also be recruited to work alongside him.

Paul, pictured, will edit the newsletter while the new recruit will be responsible for conducting interviews, creating content and exploring other platforms for the project such as podcasting.

Said Paul: “The Northern Agenda is a daily politics newsletter which reports from the other side of the north/south divide.

“We are in the unique position of being able to draw on the skills and knowledge of a network of journalists who live and work in every part of the North of England.

“The newsletter will aim to highlight the stories which are impossible for policy makers in Westminster to ignore.

“Our ambition is for The Northern Agenda to become a must-read for anyone with a stake in the future of the North, wherever they are in the country.”

“At a time when the government faces pressure to deliver on its ‘levelling up’ manifesto, and parties battle for control of the ‘Red Wall’, we believe it is more important than ever for northern voices to be heard.”
