Deputy editor steps up after two decades to take weekly’s top job

Ray SandersonA deputy editor has stepped up to take the top job after more than 20 years with a weekly newspaper.

Ray Sanderson, pictured, has been unveiled as the new editor at the Fermanagh Herald.

At the same time, the Herald has also confirmed the appointment of Katrina Brennan as the paper’s first female sports editor.

Ray, pictured, joined the Herald in 1999 as a senior reporter before being appointed sports editor and later deputy editor in 2000.

Prior to that, he worked with the Impartial Reporter for 21 years, where he held the position of deputy editor.

The Enniskillen native takes over at the Herald from Maurice Kennedy, who has resigned.

Ray said: “It is a great honour to be appointed editor of the Herald. During these challenging times for the wider community, the Herald will continue to keep its many readers informed about key events in the county and we will celebrate all that is great and good about Fermanagh.”

Ray is married to Siobhan and they have two children, Cora and Damhán.
