Daily urges readers to send ‘messages of love’ to 101-year-old in hospital

A regional daily has urged readers to send “messages of love” to a 101-year-old who is unable to receive visitors while in hospital.

Blackpool daily The Gazette has backed an appeal by the family of Edith Wilkinson to send the centenarian a card while she recovers from cellulitis.

Mrs Wilkinson is currently in Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where she is unable to see family orother visitors due to coroanvirus restrictions.

The Gazette splashed on the appeal by her granddaughter Sharon Sanderson-Roberts on Monday, pictured below.

Gillian Parkinson, editorial director for JPIMedia North West and associate editor at The Gazette, told HTFP: “The pandemic has been a really difficult time for people in hospital as understandably visiting times have been cut dramatically.

“The story of Edith Wilkinson and her granddaughter Sharon really struck a chord with us and so we wanted to give it as much publicity as possible.

“We know the people of Blackpool will respond in the generous way they always do to our appeals and send a get well message to Edith.”
