Daily to launch local focus groups to help ‘shape’ future coverage

A regional daily is to focus on a different area of its patch every week in a new campaign which aims to help “shape” its future coverage.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has launched a new series called Hello Leeds, which will see it report on the city’s “remarkable communities and organisations” in the coming weeks and months.

The YEP is also planning to hold a series of focus groups across Leeds, once it is safe to do so, in order “to help us shape our coverage about where you live”.

The campaign’s launch provided a splash for the newspaper on Monday, pictured below.

YEP Hello

In a message to readers, editor Laura Collins said: “When I first took over the reins of this newspaper I pledged that reconnecting communities would be at the heart of our coverage.

“Over the last year, we have seen some incredible acts of resilience and creativity in our communities across the city during some of our darkest days.

“Now, as we look with hope to a brighter future as the vaccine roll-out continues to gather pace, the YEP wants to ensure it is rooted firmly in the hearts of the communities that help to make Leeds such a fantastic city in which to live and work.

“We want to shine a spotlight on what you are doing to help rebuild your communities in the wake of what has been an incredibly challenging time for all of us.

“Every one of us has a story to tell and stories play a powerful role in shaping our city.

“Storytelling is at the heart of culture and given that the YEP has been telling the city’s story since 1890, we want to help build on this further.”
