Daily sets 1,000 digital subscriber goal by end of the year

Brian HossackA regional daily is aiming to attract 1,000 digital subscribers by the end of the year.

The Greenock Telegraph has set itself the target after announcing 600 readers have now subscribed to its website, as of Monday.

The Telegraph’s owner Newsquest introduced metered paywalls across 70 of its sites in April and May last year.

In an update issued in February, the publisher said the number of readers subscribing online had been “substantially ahead of expectations”.

Telegraph editor Brian Hossack revealed the 1,000 target in a piece encouraging more readers to sign up.

Brian, pictured, said: “We’d like to thank our readers who have taken out a digital subscription and helped us meet this new milestone.

“Local news is more important than ever and with your support we will be able to continue to offer the best and most important news Inverclyde has to offer.
