A regional daily has revealed good news for its patch with a callback to a previous splash it ran.

HTFP reported last April how the Edinburgh Evening News had covered the cancellation of the 2020 Edinburgh Festival due to the coronavirus pandemic by splashing on the message ‘We’ll be right back… after the break’.

The splash, which was later shortlisted for HTFP’s annual front page of the year prize, depicted various performing artists on a stage with curtains closing.

Organisers of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe have now given the green light to performers, promoters and venues for live events to return to the city this year.

The announcement prompted the EEN to run with the headline ‘We’re Back…’ on Thursday, in reference to its previous coverage of the issue.

Posting on Twitter, EEN arts correspondent Brian Ferguson wrote: “Two front pages of the EEN – pretty much 12 months apart.”

He added: “It’s only the first step, but a big one, towards a comeback.”
