Richard FredianiOne institution scooped two-thirds of all available prizes at an annual awards scheme for journalism students.

City, University of London, claimed eight out of 12 categories at the BJTC Student Journalism Awards, held virtually this year.

City students claimed awards including Best TV News Report, Best TV Feature, Best TV Documentary, Best Radio Documentary, Best Social Short Video and Best TV Sports Journalism.

In addition, City’s Liam Gould and Emily Kinder won the Steve Harris Award, which recognises the stand-out entry of the competition, and Jack Parker took home the new Derek Dowsett Award, which recognises great storytelling, tight packaging and excellent video editing.

Liam and Emily won their award for a TV documentary on youth hair loss.

BBC’s Richard Frediani, pictured, chair of the awards judges, said: “This entry stood out for me because it put people at the heart of the story, and the structure, edit and packaging were superb.

“It combined solutions and support on a deeply personal topic and it was an edit I would gladly have put on BBC Breakfast.”
