Award-winning weekly celebrates 150 years in business

An award-winning weekly newspaper has celebrated a century-and-a-half in business.

The Fife Free Press has marked its 150th anniversary with coverage in print and online.

The Kirkcaldy-based FFP, which has been named Scottish Weekly Newspaper of the Year four years out of the last six, was first published on 28 January 1871.

A special feature celebrating its long and proud history appeared in Thursday’s edition, pictured below, while a series of Twitter posts were published throughout the day looking back at the paper’s history.

A video message on Facebook thanking readers for their support was also broadcast, and the celebrations will continue with an eight-page supplement next week.

Editor Allan Crow said: “It’s an honour to celebrate this special landmark.

“The Press has been part of people’s lives for generations, and its success and longevity are down to the loyalty of readers and advertisers, and the passion and pride of the team across all departments who make it happen every single week.

“It’s a newspaper which holds many special memories for so many who have been part of its journey.”
