Stewart McIntoshAn award-winning property journalist who also launched his own sports magazine has died aged 73.

Tributes have been paid to Stewart McIntosh, who wrote for titles including Glasgow-based dailies The Herald and the Daily Record during his career.

Stewart, pictured, won 16 national press awards, including the title of UK Property Journalist of the year on nine occasions.

A keen runner, he was also part of a three-strong team that launched monthly magazine Scotland’s Runner, which was published between 1986 and 1993.

An obituary in The Herald states: “His family was the centre of his life, and he relished his friendships, nurturing many life-long connections.

“He was a fantastic raconteur and joker with a booming, infectious laugh.

“He was a socialist and an activist who stood up for the vulnerable and oppressed. He was wise and thoughtful – a natural leader – and had a powerful instinct to help people in whatever way he could.

“He was clever, creative and full of joy. A poet, a journalist, a writer to his core.”

Stewart is survived by wife Marion, daughters Morag and Rona, and his grandchildren.
