Weekly’s derelict Victorian office transformed into flats

A 121-year-old former newspaper office has been renovated into six apartments by developers.

The building, which used to house Radcliffe Times staff, is now welcoming new tenants after a plan to develop the site was agreed last year.

The building, in Church Street West, Radcliffe, had been derelict for a number of years.

A fire had affected the property in 2009 and gale force winds left the roof in a state of collapse in January 2017.

Bury Council leader Cllr Eamonn O’ Brien told the Bury Times: “This transformation of the former derelict Radcliffe Times building has the dual benefit of providing much-needed affordable housing in the area, while using a prominent town centre brownfield site.

“I am really pleased that the building is now enjoying a fresh lease of life on Radcliffe’s high street with its distinctive façade kept intact, as well as providing stylish new flats for affordable living.”

Whitehaven firm Paul Cook Developments, backed by a Homes England grant, has been behind the overhaul.

The Radcliffe Times, part of the Newsquest publishing group, is now staffed from the offices of the Bolton News.
