Two new editors unveiled amid news network’s expansion

Joyce SharlandA hyperlocal news network has created two new jobs in a further expansion as one of its editors marked the start of his 50th year in journalism.

Nub News has unveiled the launch of websites covering Godalming, in Surrey, and Conwy, in North Wales.

The new sites will be edited by Joyce Sharland and Richard Evans respectively.

Joyce, pictured above, has spent 25 years in journalism – 19 of them in Surrey.

Richard grew up in Conwy and worked in the area as a journalist, multi-media reporter and entertainment editor before leaving for PR in 2013.

Richard EvansRichard, pictured left, “I left the industry because I became disillusioned with the way it was headed.

“As soon as I heard about Nub News and its back-to-basics journalism, I applied immediately.”

Nub News, which now operates in 42 towns across the UK, is currently advertising for new recruits with the eventual aim of taking on up to 200 journalists nationwide.

Chief executive Karl Hancock said: “Surrey is a key target area for Nub News. It’s an area which has been under-served in terms of hyper-local news over the past few years and I’m delighted Joyce will the first in the county for us.”

The new hires come as Atherstone Nub News editor Nick Hudson, a former HTFP journalist, marks the start of his 50th year in journalism.

Karl added: “At Nub News, we offer those that fell out of love with the industry over the past few years a way back in, doing what they like best, meeting people face-to-face and reporting on things that matter.

“At Nub News we attract the full range of experience from graduates starting out to those with a long well-established career.

“Take Nick Hudson at Atherstone Nub News for example. Nick started his 50th year in journalism last week.

“Nick covers Atherstone and Bedworth, the two very towns he started on half a century ago.”

Nub News has also announced care home provider Kingsley Healthcare will sponsor its Shotley Peninsula site.
