Sturgeon sends ‘best wishes’ as coronavirus halts journalist’s house move

Kirsty FeerickA journalist has received “best wishes” from Nicola Sturgeon after delaying a house move after being told to self-isolate.

Kirsty Feerick, who works for the Daily Record, became one of the first people told to undertake the action after receiving a self-isolate warning notification through the new Protect Scotland app.

The warning came after Kirsty’s partner Daniel Rafferty tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday having come down with symptoms, including a loss of taste and smell.

After posting the notification on Twitter, Kirsty received a special message from the First Minister who urged others to download the app.

Ms Sturgeon wrote: “Sending best wishes to Kirsty and her partner who are among the first to receive this notification.

“This shows how the app works and will help us break transmission chains.”

The message to self-isolate came after Kirsty and Daniel had been due to pick up the keys to their new house.

Kirsty told the Glasgow-based Record she had been feeling “a bit lousy” and has developed a slight cough.

Speaking on Saturday, she said: “It’s a bit gutting because today was our move-in day to our new house, but now we’re having to stay in our flat for two weeks and hoping I don’t get symptoms.

“Daniel had been feeling generally run down, but nothing major, then suddenly lost his sense of smell and taste.
“He could not taste or smell anything.

“He hadn’t really been out at all either, just to a couple of places, so we’re unsure where he even picked it up.”
