Reporter who served daily for four decades dies aged 87

Peter HoskisonA reporter who served a regional daily for 40 years has died aged 87.

Tributes have been paid to Peter Hoskison, pictured, formerly of the Cambridge News.

At the News, Peter was known for his coverage of council issues and for a knack of finding stories by cycling around Cambridge.

He also had a reputation for playing practical jokes in the office and for wearing “weird and wonderful” ties.

Peter, who died on 30 June, originally went into journalism after teaching himself shorthand.

Known to colleagues as ‘Hos’ or simply ‘H’, he met his wife Barbara at work, where she was a telephonist.

She told the News: “He had a great sense of humour, that’s for sure.”

His daughter Maria Moore added: “He was a fantastic dad, very caring, and very generous.”

Peter was also close to his six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs Moore added: “He was always so pleased to still be alive to see her born, because he didn’t think that he would live long enough to see a great-granddaughter.”

Peter is also survived by his two other children.  Donations in his memory can be made at peasgoodandskeates.co.uk/donate-in-memory.
